Star cluster formation in clouds with externally driven turbulence

Star clusters are known to be formed in turbulent molecular clouds. How turbulence is driven clouds and what effect this has on star formation still unclear. We compare a simulation setup with driving everywhere periodic box where only around the outside of box. analyse resulting gas distribution, kinematics, population stars that from cloud. Both setups successfully produce velocity field power law structure function, externally cloud more central, monolithic, clump, while fully many smaller, dispersed, clumps. The follows morphology producing large clusters, high forming efficiency simulations sparse individual much lower case. conclude method, which resembles Global Hierarchical Collapse (GHC) scenario, produces closely match observations.
